Invited Speakers
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Baumgart
Full Professor at Hochschule Mittweida –
University of Applied Sciences, Germany
Institute for Computer Science and Media in
Research and Transfer (CSMRT)
Talk Topic: Evaluation research
proposals using machine learning methods
Abstract: The complexity of research
management at universities and
universities and universities of applied
sciences has increased in recent years, both
on the part of the scientists and on an
administrative level. In particular, the
creation and processing of texts for
research proposals, publications and other
scientific documents require considerable
effort. At the same time, methods and
technologies in the fields of information
retrieval, machine learning and semantic
technologies exist that are suitable for
analyzing and evaluating these texts and
other metadata. The keynote lecture aims to
show how efforts in the life cycle of
publicly funded research projects can be
optimized with the help of these
technologies.
Bio: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Baumgart
has held the professorship “Digital
Integrated Process Management” at Mittweida
University of Applied Sciences since 2024.
Previously, he was Head of the Research
Department at Mittweida University of
Applied Sciences from 2014-2024 and was
responsible for research management,
research funding, knowledge and technology
transfer and scientific events. The computer
scientist with a focus on network technology
and a patent and industrial engineer
acquired further professional skills as a
project manager, start-up consultant,
consultant and independent IT service
provider. With an M.Sc. in project and
process management and a dissertation
completed magna cum laude in the field of
computer science with the topic “Exploration
of machine learning methods for the
development of a methodological framework
for the evaluation of scientific texts”, he
gained interdisciplinary knowledge at the
interface of computer science, science and
business. Over the last 10 years, he has
also been significantly involved in the
application for and implementation of
projects at EU, federal and state level. His
publication record currently includes
publications in over 20 peer-reviewed
conference proceedings & journals. He has
also contributed conceptually to more than
200 research projects. Prof. Dr. Baumgart
brings several years of project experience
to the CSMRT Institute
(https://csmrt.hs-mittweida.de) and is
currently active in the research areas of
IT, project and process management;
process-oriented business & information
systems engineering; digital technologies;
interdisciplinary co-design of networked
systems and digital processes as well as
intellectual property management.
